Let’s be real…
Therapy alone cannot absolve a person of the oppressive systems that may perpetuate one's complex trauma. However, it can provide you with the skills to develop coping mechanisms and techniques to help you navigate through these various systems, while prioritizing your mental stability. These skills may include:
Identifying and modifying dysfunctional patterns of thinking and behavior within various systems (i.e. systemic racism, family, school, workplace, social circles, etc.)
Gaining a deeper understanding of your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, enabling you to recognize how these factors may influence your interactions within various systems.
Managing stress and anxiety in a healthy manner, which can lead to greater resiliency when faced with challenges.
Developing problem-solving skills.
Developing effective communication skills, including active listening, assertiveness, and conflict resolution.
Remain hopeful in times of stress.
